No typhoon, but four straight days of heavy downpour seemingly drowned Taipei during it’s “dry” season this past week. I practically swam to class yesterday morning. My new friend:
Today, however, the clouds decided to stop crying for a while, though they still hung around from dawn to dusk. I took the opportunity to walk a little more around the Wenshan District area by NCCU. I found some new eateries that I will try out within the next few weeks, including a sushi place only around the corner from campus that I had before never known to exist. Sushi!!!
I also opened a Taiwanese bank account all by meself 🙂 Money in the bank! The ATM card is forwarded to me within a week. The people at the bank were all very friendly and seemed to like the foreigner, though only one could speak some broken English (he kept repeating the word “despot” meaning “deposit”). For those interested, I will update the NCCU page with more information about opening a bank account in Taiwan. Sage advice on the main page: open an account ASAP if you’re going to be here awhile–it will make your life a whole lot easier.
Stay dry now.
