Shilin Night Market is THE place to go in Taipei if you want to try a little bit of everything Taiwan’s best cuisine has to offer. There are many students there every night, as well as other locals and tourists alike, to get some cheap and tasty eats. Besides the ungodly amounts of food to be consumed, there are multitudes of small clothing, shoes, accessory, toy, etc. shops crammed down spider-like alleyways and a large boardwalk game-like area. From around 7-10pm it is almost impossible to move due to the extreme amount of people milling about the place, but it’s all part of the experience and it’s a great place to do some serious bargain shopping.
Last night I sampled everything from candied sour plums to oyster omelets to sweet shaved ice to grilled chicken butt on a stick. Some pictures to enjoy.
Slight note of caution: my stomach is showing no sign of mercy this morning. Be careful what and how much you eat.
If you want to get to Shilin Night Market from NCCU, take the 530 bus to Gongguan MRT station and then take the MRT to Jiantan Station (NOT Shilin Station). Exit and follow the people 🙂
